It’s like everything you need in a little black plastic box. But woe is me to anyone who drops that sucker on a hard surface, like the parking lot pavement or a sidewalk – or even the concrete floor of a grocery store. Once that little screen cracks from being dropped all the rest of that expensive mini computer is worthless.

Isn’t it funny how words that used to mean something to us as children have such a different meaning in today’s world? Like the word tablet. Now it means the cutting edge personal computer vehicle. Although I am not quite sure that vehicle is the right term. We used to have desktop machines, then we had laptops, then netbooks. And now tablets.

When I was a kid, a tablet was basically several sheets of paper bound to a stiff cardboard backing by a coating of glue across the top. You could easily use the top sheet then cleanly tear it off and have a fresh unused sheet ready to use.

Even the word notebook was different. I used a notebook to hold multiple sheets of paper in one place. The notebook had a series of clasps inside and the paper would a corresponding number of holes prepunched in it to insert between the rings. You could release the rings and remove or re-order the pages easily. Now the children have to call them binders and a notebook is just another type of computer.

My step son must be trying to find out the answer to this question. At first I thought he was deliberately trying to break it so that he would feel entitled to a new phone and upgrade his. But I’ve watched the clumsy fool and he just drops it a lot.

Condo life sometimes means putting up with little nuisances that you might not have to deal with in a single family home with a yard and good distance between neighbors.

Even though this condo development is upscale and the construction is high end, there can still be nights where the noise from your neighbor’s TV or sound system creeps into your bedroom and makes sleep difficult. I don’t have a garage band next door, but for some reason the neighbors like to listen to rock and roll ALL night. Now, I like rock and roll, but not at 3:00 in the morning when I’m trying to sleep.

So we’ve come up with a solution other than calling the police and filing noise complaints against the neighbors. We bought a little machine called Sleep Mate, which makes a nice little sound during the night called white noise and you don’t have to listen to that rock and roll or even hubby’s snoring anymore.

My neighborhood is usually quiet and uneventful. The neighbors have all lived here for 4 years or more, and although we aren’t great friends, we all do try to be good neighbors and look out for each other. It seems like once a year we have some kind of excitement with the police involved. Twice we have had a car run up into our yard as a result of a police chase from elsewhere. The perpetrator makes the mistake of turning into our street too fast and loses control of the car, jumping the curb and running into a tree or a fence and taking off on foot.

I guess this year’s excitement happened last night, as I discovered this morning when I went to get in the car to run a few errands. Sometime after midnight my cars were broken into. Everything that was in the glove compartment and the middle console was pulled out and dumped onto the seats and floorboards. But nothing seems to be missing. I don’t leave anything valuable in the cars anyway. But it is disconcerting to think that someone would violate my property like that.

My neighbor and I are considering putting a video surveillance system in place that would encompass her driveway and mine, and also the front and rear doors of the houses. We are both concerned that whoever broke into my cars might get a little bolder and try to get into our houses.

My daughter-in-law is in the process of moving to her new apartment this week. I rounded up all the large empty boxes I could find and sent them over to her so she could get started packing. The new apartment has an extra bedroom and is more spacious, so I’m glad she’s moving up.

She’ll be turning the extra bedroom into a home office so she can do more work from home and not have to pay for child care, plus she’ll be saving cash by not having to commute. Of course, setting up the home office will take a bit of cash, but you can’t make money if you don’t spend money.

We’ll be underwriting some of the home office equipment to help her out. Since we are on a tight budget, we are looking for ways to save as much money as we can, yet we can’t always get the cheapest products – there are some quality and reliability issues to consider as well as price.

A great source for money saving coupons is a website I found online. There are a variety of coupons to save significant money on Dell small business computers. We are also going to need some home office furniture, at the very least a computer desk and task chair.

I’m not sure which way to advise her on a printer for her new home office. I haven’t had much luck with the last ones I’ve bought. At the moment I’m using a cheap laser printer that only prints black and white, but it is a workhorse and I can use refilled toner cartridges, which saves a lot of money. I think for the sake of just getting started, she should probably have one like what I’m using, and when she starts making money she can upgrade to a color printer later.

Samsung has taken the bull by the horns and released a new phone to compete with Apple’s iPhone. The new Samsung 3G Instinct looks a lot like the iPhone – it is shaped very similar and has the same polished black case and smooth touchscreen. But it has some features that iPhone didn’t think of.

The best one that caught my interest is that the battery is removable and replaceable. Batteries are the bane of my existence and recharging them always seems to be an issue with me.

The Instinct has 3G access for fast downloads and pageviews. It also has expandable memory – aka spend more money to keep more stuff (like video clips and tons of tunes) stored on your phone. And a really nice feature is the “haptic feedback” for the touch screen. Just like your normal keyboard keys click when you type so you know you actually hit the keys, when you touch the Instinct phone’s flatscreen keypad, the keys vibrate slightly. Very cool.

If you travel a lot, the GPS navigation combined with voice commands will be very helpful.

Already in production and revealed at this week’s big CTIA show in Las Vegas, you should be able to find this new phone in stores mid-June.

I was a cell phone hold out for a very long time and only began carrying a cell phone because my job required it. I traveled quite a bit and I admit it came in handy many time. If I was still doing that job today I would probably carry a PDA now, but that company folded up and I’m gone, which broke my heart.

So I decided to get my own cell phone and signed up with the company that has our home phone service. The phone was free with a 2 year agreement yadda yadda yadda. Well, I can see why the phone was free – it isn’t worth more than $5 in my book. I can’t hear it ring half the time no matter what setting I put it on. When I do talk to someone I can’t hear what they are saying unless I am in a closed room with absolutely no background noise. If I’m in the car or out in the yard, forget about it.

The phone has way too many extra bells and whistles that I’ll never use and don’t even want to have on there – to get to the couple of features I do want it is a long and laborious process clicking through too many menus and scrolling through too many submenus. Even the voicemail stinks – it does not record the day and time of the voicemail message, so I have no idea when someone called.

My 2 year agreement is up in April – I have yet to decide if I’m even going to keep a cell phone anymore. This one doesn’t meet my needs and it’s an expensive convenience I might be willing to do without.

About a year ago I saw a good price on a computer package and decided on impulse to splurge and buy it. I bought an HP Pavilion Slimline that came with all the bells and whistles, Windows Vista and a beautiful flat screen 19′ color monitor. It set up quickly and I haven’t had any trouble with it at all – knock on wood.

So I thought it would be good to buy another one just like for the home office and we can give the old PC to our grandson. He has just started school and he loves to play with letters and numbers, he can read a couple hundred “sight words” and he like to play with numbers, too. I’ve shown him how to get online to play a couple of good children’s sites games, like Thomas the Train and Dora the Explorer. He can even play a couple simple card games. We are so proud of him!

So I’ve searched everywhere for this Slimline PC and can’t find it for sale anywhere!

The new invisibleSHIELD case for iPhones, iPods and other electronic devices originally created for the U. S. military to protect helicopter blades. It is a specially patented thin, polyurethane film that does not scratch.

The invisibleSHIELD case is invisible and invincible – the shield does not scratch and protects your cell phones and MP3 players, digital cameras, etc from getting scratched. It has a “grippy” feel, which even makes it less likely to slip out of your hands or get dropped. There are case designs to fit over 2,000 branded electronics, and if they don’t have exactly what you need they are willing to custom make it for you.

If you are looking for an iphone case you should check out the invisibleSHIELD website and watch the cool online video demo.

Buy your next wall bracket from Dekomount not just because they are the United Kingdoms leading provider of Plasma Wall Brackets and LCD TV Wall Brackets for every make of screen but because they have the best prices on them to. When I purchased my Plasma screen it did not come with installation instructions or the brackets needed to hang it on the wall so I did a quick Google search for wall brackets and came across this awesome website that sells tons of television brackets at great prices and picked up a couple wall brackets for my Plasma and now have my television hanging from them. If you are in the market for any type of wall bracket from a Plasma Wall Bracket to floating DVD wall brackets, then be sure to check out this great website and see what they can do for you.

If your like me, then you probably have a lot of records and cassettes tapes from way back in the day that are just siting somewhere collecting dust because your not able to play them in your CD player. For the last couple of hours I have been using a converter to transfer my record collection over to CD and have not had any problems with it what so ever. The music sounds crystal clear on my CD player and BOSE sound system. The LP Saver looks very cool, almost retro like and has everything contained inside of it you will need to record all your favorite old records and cassettes. If you know of someone that has a stash of old records or cassette tapes laying around this would be the perfect gift for them whether its for a Birthday or Christmas gift it is sure to bring a smile on who ever face receives it. I know that I will be using this very cool machine to record my record albums and old cassettes for the next couple of weeks at least with the amount of records I have stored in the basement but I am looking forward to hearing all the songs of yesterday, again today.

Anyone who has Diabetes knows testing can be painful and time consuming but not with Freestyle Test Strips, because they were designed to prevent sore fingers by requiring only a tiny blood sample, the smallest sample of any other diabetic testing supply kit in the world. With the Freestyle Test Strips you need only a 0.3 micro liter of a blood sample to ensure accurate test results in about 15 seconds. If you know someone still using an old painful diabetic testing kit, please tell them about this pain free method of testing there blood glucose levels by using the Freestyles Testing Strips.

On the front page of Yahoo yesterday was a story about how more and more people are getting dumped via there mobile devices from text messages to emails. Seems funny to me that people would use a text message to break up but I guess there are those who prefer not to hear all the the other stuff that is said, after saying the phrase “I want to break up”. Of course make sure to block the number or email address of that person otherwise your just going to get a call or email back.

Motoraola has signed an agreement with Microvisions to put projectors in Motorola phones, as if the Razor did not have enough going for it already now it gets a projection screen as well. The timing on this release is sure to hurt the Apple IPhone sales, as  is some early problems the IPhone is having with customers. Ofcourse price will be a key factor but I imagine one day you will be able to get this type of phone free as long as you sign a agreement to use that providers services.

I have seen many differnt options for getting a security camera signal to show up on a wireless motion device. But today I wonder that is the best one to consider for the most practical use? I have seen everything from tablet pcs being used for watching home security cams, to miniature 3″ lcd screens made for spytech type application. I have yet to see any programs that allow a palm handheld device or windows mobile device, but certainly there are some out there. Does anyone have any expereince with using palm sized devices (other than dedicated, single purpose devices like baby monitors).

I sometimes think that a baby monitor styles device may be most practical, if only for the cost. It may be most practical to have a small security cam viewing device in every room in the house, so having just one expensive unit that can show the video may actually be outwieghed by the convenience (and subsequent more use) of a cheaper, more readily available device.

What do you think?

Well you probably knew it was coming if you read the last two posts Project Handguns http://www.handgunshandguns.com was launched today, this is my third website I made about guns. The motto here is to have twice as many guns as anyone else on the internet for sale for the genere we feature and it looks like they may just do that. I have alot of cool ideas I want to try out in Flash and video on teh website and ofcourse get a mobile version up as soon as humanly possible so everyone on web 2.0 can access the website with ease and not long loadtimes. Have to say i am pretty impressed with what we have made thus far and ofcourse want to do with the site.
