The schools are so quick to blame the sorry state of education in America on the lack of parental involvement. I say it is baloney, but let’s take it seriously for just a moment. I challenge the educators to tell me exactly what do they want the parents to do differently? What kind of involvement do they want from the parents?

If there are specific, concrete things that the educators want the parents to do that will result in a better education for the children of America, let me know exactly what the parents need to do. I will help get the word out and maybe we can turn this thing around.

Our future depends on it.

But it does have it’s limits. There are people who are not on Facebook, such as children and grandchildren under 13, and there are people who are registered on Facebook but they do not enter their date of birth on their profiles.

So I still have to maintain a separate calendar. I wish I could customize the Facebook calendar and add in the ones that I want.

I cannot tell you the last time I went to the store and bought a newspaper. I get my news from TV and the internet. The only good thing that comes in the newspaper anymore are the store flyers and coupons over the holidays. Other than that, the Tennessean sucks – almost no actual scoops or news. Just a lot of bias and opinion, advice that I don’t want, and a rehash of stuff I already read online the night before. And their web site is crap, too. Forget about breaking news coverage from the newspaper – it’s all old news by the time the paper is printed and hits the streets.

One of the parties is being held at the new luxury condo high rise downtown as a fund raiser, and that one has peaked my interest. They are having a menu based on the movie, with chinese take out, bottomless cosmopolitans, and cheesecake. There will be a fashion show and a surprise guest appearance – so now I REALLY have an interest in going. It would be fun to have a girls night out and celebrate a fun new movie – I think I’m talking myself into it!

Condo life sometimes means putting up with little nuisances that you might not have to deal with in a single family home with a yard and good distance between neighbors.

Even though this condo development is upscale and the construction is high end, there can still be nights where the noise from your neighbor’s TV or sound system creeps into your bedroom and makes sleep difficult. I don’t have a garage band next door, but for some reason the neighbors like to listen to rock and roll ALL night. Now, I like rock and roll, but not at 3:00 in the morning when I’m trying to sleep.

So we’ve come up with a solution other than calling the police and filing noise complaints against the neighbors. We bought a little machine called Sleep Mate, which makes a nice little sound during the night called white noise and you don’t have to listen to that rock and roll or even hubby’s snoring anymore.

I wanted to grill some chicken breasts tonight instead of the usual hamburgers or steak, but I couldn’t find any chicken marinade in the pantry. So I got the idea to use regualr Italian dressing. I just poured the dressing straight from the bottle into the Ziploc bag and let it marinade the chicken for about 20 minutes before tossing them on the grill. Wowie! They turned out great!

I fixed my cold pasta salad that I call “Green and White Pasta” and some garlic toast and we were all set. The Green and White Pasta is really easy, too. Just toss some small cooked shells with a handful of frozen baby peas and some bottled ranch dressing. If you like, you can add a little diced Vidalia onion, green pepper and celery – any or all of the three make a nice crunchy addition and keep within the green and white theme.

They say that a well run business will appreciate its employees and value its clients or customers. One good, inexpensive way to demonstrate a company’s appreciation is the use of recognition programs. A good recognition program not only praises an employee for business achievements but also for personal milestones, such as birthdays, employment date anniversaries, and even encouragement during setbacks, such as serious illness or surgeries. Acknowledging these milestones or personal moments with a premium quality greeting card is the perfect way to express that you care and appreciate your employees.

Our Human Resources Manager ordered a collection of all occasion cards from gallerycollection.com and had them custom imprinted, but we also pass them them around to the rest of the staff for personal notes and signatures before presenting them with a flourish or small ceremony to the recipient. The Business Birthday Cards are a nice way to help celebrate employee and client birthdays. I also like that the envelopes are a classy, deckle-edged heavy stock, and they are made of recycled paper.

The new invisibleSHIELD case for iPhones, iPods and other electronic devices originally created for the U. S. military to protect helicopter blades. It is a specially patented thin, polyurethane film that does not scratch.

The invisibleSHIELD case is invisible and invincible – the shield does not scratch and protects your cell phones and MP3 players, digital cameras, etc from getting scratched. It has a “grippy” feel, which even makes it less likely to slip out of your hands or get dropped. There are case designs to fit over 2,000 branded electronics, and if they don’t have exactly what you need they are willing to custom make it for you.

If you are looking for an iphone case you should check out the invisibleSHIELD website and watch the cool online video demo.

Last night’s movie was a total chick flick, “Under the Tuscan Sun” with Diane Lane. A college professor discovers her husband is cheating on her and gets divorced. He gets the house and everything in it. She falls into a deep depression, and her girlfriend intervenes by sending her on a trip to Italy. She comes across a house by chance and ends up buying it and trying to make a new life for herself in Italy.

What a cool idea. I’d like to skip the cheating husband and divorce and depression part, but I’m down with going to Europe. If any of you friends want to send me to Europe – perhaps France? – I will certainly be glad to go.

How nice it would be if our Government one day gave out loans for people to get energy efficient cars or trucks and to help with getting loans in order to make everyones home more energy efficient. And not just some sort of tax credit but but actual loans in order to buy better earth friendly products. I for one would take a loan to get a better more fuel efficient car and would love to take a loan in order to get solar panels put on the roof of my home.

Some of the things I have done on my own around the house in order to make things a little better for the environment is to change out all my standard light bulbs with energy efficient LED light bulbs.

Was watching some clips of a Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Professor giving lectures to MIT students and found that the user that was uploading the videos was MIT itself. MIT on YouTube has tons of great clips on the site from all sorts of teachers giving away free lectures.

There are way to many great episodes to name and talk about each one and I have only seen a fraction of the videos they offer, so I just wanted to pass along this great find in hopes that people will learn from its online video courses they offer to better educate our societies and that will in turn build a better community for our Nations. If you have some free time and are in the mood to learn then watch a few clips from Professor Walter Lewin.

I recently started a new company with the intent of selling merchandise online, when setting up an online company there are a couple of things that you need to do first and since this is my 6th online company I decided to blog about the things I did to make successful online businesses, so that maybe people can learn from my experiences to help them in launching and maintaining an online company. i will do more posts like this in the future so stay tuned.

The first is the .com you want to get one that is about your business in the name or the keyword you are trying to achieve.

The second is to create a better looking website than your competitions websites, and by that I mean take a look at the top 10 people in your industry and make sure that your web design is better than all of theres.

Third is making sure that you have more products than your competition and at better prices, and fill the website with them.

Fourth, market your website by submitting it to every directory you can afford to, and do not forget to submit it to dmoz which is free and the Yahoo directory which costs $300.

Fifth is to submit all your products to places Google Products, Bizrate, and other sites like them.

Sixth, buy some traffic from the top search engines like Google, Yahoo, and MSN if you can afford to do so.

Recently I have been looking for ways to get smarter with my money that I have just sitting in bank accounts earning very little interest. For awhile now I have been looking at different stocks and various companies that are going public in the coming months and have decided to invest quite a bit of money into them to see if I can make my money earn more getting in on these stocks early than it would if it just sat in low interest earning bank account.

An example of this is, if I would have bought into Google stock when it first hit market at $40 a share, then I would have been a very rich woman today because it is over $600 a share today. I have been looking for the next Google to come on the market so to speak and I think I found it, so listen up if you want to make some extra dough with your dough. VISA is going public this year and I see them being the next Google on the stock market.

They do twice as much business as Master Card and there stock has went 6 fold since it went public 20 months ago. So to me this means VISA will probably go ten fold in 20 months. Anyways mark this post because in 20 months we are going to find out.

Have been looking around for another business investment idea so that I can make a little extra money at the end of every month. I decided to go with trying to sell clothing online and am looking for a good .com to do it with. My friend goes around to the local malls and buys clothes at great discounts and bargains then turns around and sells the same clothes online for twice as much. So I went shopping with her last week and picked up a couple outfits with her and she already sold all of them. What she and I will be doing is creating outfits by taking clothes from different stores and make matching outfits with them and then sell them online for double or three times what we paid for it at the store. I am not totally sure this will work but it is worth a try to see if it can make me some extra money.

Getting my dog to take any type of pill that is good for him used to take a lot of time and effort until my vet told me about this cool trick in order to get dogs to eat things they would not normally eat like medicine pills.

The first thing you do is get a piece of American cheese out, take the pill and wrap the cheese around it, then take a second piece of cheese and put it in the other hand. Now give the piece with the pill to the dog first, then give the plain piece of cheese next, but while giving the first piece keep the dogs attention on getting the second piece that way it will swallow the first piece fast in hopes of getting the second piece.

This trick has worked like a charm from me and has never failed so I thought I would share it in hopes of saving people and dogs some time and suffering.

I was talking with my friend the other day about how Gizmodo did a prank at the consumer electronic show this year, in which they had a tv b-gone remote control and went around turning off everyones television displays with it, and my friend said it would be cool if they would invent a system b gone remote so that when loud vehicles were by you, you could hit the off button on the remote and it would automatically turn off the music system. I do not know if all systems or radios work on the same band but it would be cool if they did and if someone could invent a system be gone remote.
